Silver Pants, One Man's Dream.
"Winning trumps all and that's all that should be
considered" is a sentiment that flies around a lot when the uniform
conversation comes up. Yeah yeah, I get it. I want to win too, but I think
there is room during this anxious waiting period year after year of endless
summers to entertain this lighthearted harmless theme. Some fans find it silly
or even stupid to have the uniform conversation about red pants, black jerseys,
etc... Are those same fans ok with the fact that out of convenience or
indifference UGA football players sport matte gray pants? This change wasn't
done to be flashy or to promote some gimmick. It was told to us it was done
because Nike, the self-professed leader of sports manufacturing, couldn't
figure out silver pants. Think about that. With all the Chinamen in China Nike
couldn't figure out silver pants for UGA(cough cough BS cough BS). Now UGA
hasn't seen silver pants in a month of Sundays, meanwhile The Oakland Raiders
have been sporting silver Nike pants for a decade. By this fan's opinion, this
can only be perceived as a slap in the face by Nike to UGA, or a genuine
indifferent attitude by two different staffs in regards to silver pants.
Maybe I'm off base
here, or maybe people just don't care anymore, but in my opinion it's just
another one of those things that help add up to the underachieving we seem to
be ok with. Maybe it's not a big deal, and maybe the Shoe Engineers find matte
gray an acceptable compromise to spending more time and investment on finding a
method, god willing, to spin up UGA some God Damn silver pants! We are also
told year after year that UGA administrators and coaches demand excellence from
our players to put up W’s in the fall, but these same administrators and
coaches will turn around and demand less from equipment providers? I understand
that this is a small issue, but I also understand that this indifferent
attitude of sacrificing silver pants for matte gray because it's easier or
cheaper, is the same attitude and common theme Georgia has been plagued with
for the past 40 years or so. Maybe it's the same attitude that led to the
abomination of that god-awful QB play last year among other things.
Now I'm not saying
UGA lost any games because of gray pants, that's crazy talk, but they haven't
won Georgia jack shit either. I am also not saying that silver pants will
somehow be a magic touchdown maker. I just think a little attention to detail
is warranted in this case. And even though the Black jerseys where super sweet
against Auburn in 07, and I would love to see red pants again, any talk about
any other jersey color, color combo, or number font will fall on deaf ears to
this fan until I can yell "Go you Silver Britches" and mean it once
again.
